CAPSULE
So that sleep will be deep and unbroken
so that morning will be bereft of one more
staggering sorrow so that the body resides,
at least, within the spongy cage of the skin.
No better than that. No less: sleep enclosed
behind the eye's closed door, yes any dream
in a tin sleep-bucket and the dog rattling
like a stone. Yes, night
like a fire and no bells.
